Back to biographies

It's July, and I think I'm officially freaking out in my head now, because it's less than four weeks away. Four weeks away from you being free from hearing me freak out too, so I realize it might be a happier deadline for you. And as soon as it's over, there will be many good times...I get to spend a week in CA with my undergrad friends, and even get to attend a Cal football event! And then I go to Montana to be with Duke Law friends for a wedding. So I see so much happy starting August first, but getting there is scaring the crap out of me.

In other news, I've been reading this series of books about this lawyer in Oklahoma since I high school I think, and I'm finally done with it. It's about a defense attorney, and at first the books were good because it was full of investigation into who the real killers were, etc etc. But lately they've become super preachy and all about whatever issues the author is so concerned about, and I just finished one of his most recent, and it was just awful. It was one giant sermon, with now exciting case at all! He kind of faked it for a while, but it was more of a distraction to the real story than anything else, and I've decided I'm just done with him. So William Bernhardt, we are through! No more time will I waste on you.

Wow, it's almost July

Since knitting class I haven't practiced that, but I've been quilting. Makes total sense. Well, I was going to hand quilt the quilt, but after about one foot worth of hand quilting I realized that that was a terrible idea, and I decided to switch back to machine quilting, and since then it's gone much faster. Hopefully I'll be done with this one relatively soon because I just got a quilting book and I decided what I want to do next and I want to get started on it! You know, in between the bar studying.

Speaking of, I'm so excited because on Friday, we don't have any assignments (fourth of July) and I'm planning on taking the entire day off. A whole day off!! It's going to be amazing. If I don't panic too much about the bar exam being fewer than four weeks away at that point. Wait, I panicked a little just typing that. Ok, going to block it from my mind.

And since I'm talking about the bar exam yet again (sorry), here are more lolcats! Adam, any time you want an explanation, I'll be happy to do so in excruciating detail. It'll be a good way to review.

I love Fridays again

The one good thing about this bar review class I'm doing is that it makes me appreciate Fridays again like I haven't in a long time. This whole year, seeing as Wednesday was my Friday, Friday was nothing special. And I actually disliked Saturdays, because Saturday meant that the weekend was more than half over already! Now I have a whole new appreciation for the weekend, it's kind of nice.

This is hilarious, and not related to the bar exam at all. Aren't you proud of me? I'm sure you are.

I got the boxes I'm supposed to pack all of my stuff in delivered today. So far I've packed half a box and thrown out about the same. I feel like that's pretty good progress for one day. I got the boxes this yearly so I could take it slowly and just pack a box here and there, but I'm guessing I'll still end up having to do most of it right before I leave for the bar exam, and thus panicking super crazy. I can't wait.

Oh, I found my Y! Apparently when it flew threw the air it actually landed on the edge of my laptop, on the black plastic part right near the edge where the screen hits it at the 90 degree angle, and I didn't notice because of the whole black plastic on black plastic thing. And I don't take my laptop to school with me now since I just take notes in the barbri workbook, so somehow the Y never got jostled enough that it moved, and I never saw it. But now my keyboard is whole once more, yay.

Tomorrow morning I'm doing a knitting class with my friend Bri, I'm excited. Always adding to my craft knowledge.

More things to entertain you

If you're studying for the bar exam, of course.

Y is such a little piece of crap.

I was typing on my computer just now and I accidentally flicked off the "y" key (I think my fingernails just caught it from underneath and dislodged it) and now I can't find the damn thing! I saw it go flying from the corner of my eye, and land on my desk, but I can't see it anywhere. I've moved all the stuff over there, I've looked in open containers nearby where it could have fallen off the desk onto, and it's just gone! And now it's driving me nuts. Luckily I can still use the Y key, but seriously, where the hell could it have gone. I'm assuming I'll find it within the next day or so, but with my luck I'll find it when I move in a month. UGH.

Bar review humor

One of my friends told me that there was a facebook group that had a bunch of bar review lolcats, so of course I went through the entire collection of them to procrastinate. I know most people who read this won't get them, but for the three people who will, I'm going to post some of my favorites periodically. And if you don't get them, just shake your head at me that I think they're funny. Actually, you'll probably be shaking your head either way, so just feel sorry for me.

Manic Monday

Every time we have a thunderstorm here (which happens quite frequently, as it turns out) the power goes off at my place. Only for a second, just long enough to have to reset my clocks, but still. Yesterday it went out three times in an hour, drove me nuts. And apparently when I reset my bedroom clock that third time, I managed to switch the AM and the PM for the main clock, because although my alarm clock was set correctly for 8am, it didn't go off since my clock thought it was 8pm. Which meant that I woke up at 8:43 this morning, for my 9am bar prep class. Luckily I am awesome and made it from my bed to my chair in class in 22 minutes. And I even made my bed, too! (I hate leaving the house with an unmade bed, and would probably spend the 30 seconds it takes to make it barring something other than a house fire or crazy serial killer invading.) But it made for a hectic morning.

Also, studying for the bar is ruining my health. My eyes have really been bothering me lately, and I can only assume that after three years of law school not affecting my eyesight at all, the never-ending reading of bar prep has taken its toll this month. I think my vision in my right eye has gotten worse, and I don't know if that's even possible in just a month, but it feels like it. They've been bothering me so much that I actually took out my contacts this afternoon, and went out in public in my glasses today. I was horrified with myself, but I had no choice. Plus, the prescription for my glasses is actually a little different than the one for my contacts, and I think this might be the right one for my right eye once again (I went from -1.5 to -1.25, but now I'm thinking I'm back at -1.5). In addition to my terrible eyesight, I know have arthritis in my right hand. Well, not arthritis, but it feels like it because the joints in my hand are killing me from all the handwritten notes and stuff I've been taking. I haven't been typing them because I feel like I retain it better when I hand-write it, but now my hand hurts so much I don't want to write anything! I think I'm going to try taking some Aleve or something.

Finally, in both legal and Duke news, this is hilarious.

I'm judging

I did my CPR certification class today...and the people I was with make these idiots sound like geniuses. Seriously, I wanted to smack some people in the face. And one of them was a retired teacher! So great, no wonder high school kids are dumb, their teachers are idiots too.

Big plans

My next career, once I finish my two years of being a lawyer (assuming I pass the bar, of course). I'm pretty excited about it, I think it'll be fun and I'll be good at it. One random commentator lists what he thinks the main requirements are, and I know I satisfy at least one of the two, plus I have social skills, so I'm feeling pretty qualified right now.
