One more thing!

Today marks day one of five in a row with birthdays of friends or family. So, happy birthday John!!!

Good news-bad news

Remember how I lost my metro SmarTrip card? Well I got my new one in the mail, yay, and when I used it I somehow had like $30 more than I had on it before I lost it. Weird! And awesome--it was worth being without it to make $30. So today I got a phone call from the metro office--they wanted to confirm the number of the card they had given me, because apparently they had sent me the wrong one! And suddenly it all makes sense. So they fixed the amount that was on the other guy's card and put this one back in my name, and luckily let me keep my bonus money...hooray again =)

But sadly I realized that I once again am on the losing side of things! Apparently a package of mine was delivered here last week and was stolen. The UPS guy left a notice on the door saying that he left it under the stairs, but neither I nor Andy (my roommate) could find anything under the stairs! I called UPS and they couldn't help me, so tomorrow I have to call the company and tell them that my package got stolen and they better send me replacement items because it's not my fault they told UPS to leave the package, and the guy was stupid enough to leave the note saying it was under the freakin' stairs! No one will ever crack that code, thanks UPS guy. I'm pretty pissed.

I think I may be psychic

I woke up last night and checked the clock (4:13 am) and literally ten seconds later Eric called me. I think it was an accidental call because I just heard background noise, like it was in his pocket or something, but yeah, I might be psychic.

Having troubles today

Today was not a good day for me and technology. I walked into the metro to go home, and my card was denied. And the metro guy tries to swipe it, and says that it has become deactivated somehow, so I have to go get a new one, and then take it to the metro office tomorrow when it's open to get my money off of the deactivated one. This is, of course, just using the regular paper farecard, since, as I mentioned, I lost my Smartrip one on Sunday. Great!

Then, five minutes later, I dropped my phone and the already kind of messed up hinge just gave way, and my phone ended up in two pieces. So now I have to go to Verizon tomorrow morning and get a new phone! Hooray! This is fabulous. So happy. Oh well, I just kinda wish that I didn't have a thing after work so I could go then, instead of getting up early and doing it before work. Or if tomorrow wasn't going to be so busy that would be fine, but I got a project today that I have to have done by tomorrow afternoon and I don't know if that will happen and I already have a lunch scheduled which I'm sure will take a long time, so I gotta go early if I want it tomorrow (and seeing as it's two blocks from work, I'd rather just get it tomorrow instead of come back on Saturday--plus not be out a phone for an extra day).

Also, people need to stop being f*cktards. This may be addressed to you, if you're reading it, use your best judgment to decide if it is. It probably isn't though, so don't worry. Unless you actually are a f*cktard. In which case, yes, I am referring to you. And please stop it.

11:23...make a wish!

I just noticed the time stamp on blogger is still messed up...I thought it would fix itself after we passed the date that spring forward normally is on, but apparently not. I'll try to figure that out, someday.

Lost spoilers, don't read! (unless you saw it, of course)

Ok, I can't help you anymore than this. So...first of all, yay for Hurley! I felt so badly for him, I'm glad he got to save the day. Plus I'm glad he just plain did save the day, lol. And wow, Sayid? When he broke that guy's neck with his feet...no man has ever been sexier. I mean, he was a bad guy, after all. And that was AWESOME! Poor Sawyer, I guess he's all screwed up because he killed Locke's dad, but really, he should be feeling set free--he did what he wanted to do! He fulfilled his Australia destiny. I'm not saying he should have wanted to kill someone...but face it, Locke's dad was about the worst dad ever. And the world won't be sorry he's gone. And what's with the flashbacks maybe not being flashbacks at all? Who died? Is the "he" Kate referred to Sawyer? (I hope so! She looked nice with her hair not all island-y, btw.) What happened to Jack?? And he referenced his dad when he was at the hospital and said, if I'm drunker than he is, then you can fire me! Well...we're pretty sure he's dead though, right? So, what's up with that? And addicted to painkillers? About to kill himself? Alcoholic? "We need to go back to the island"--huh?? Although cool that they all got magic gold cards saying they can fly wherever and whenever they want, as payment for their plane crashing and all. So, Penny is still out there somewhere, but Naomi really isn't her person. So is Naomi part of the real Dharma Initiative? (or whoever is left of them, that is) I suppose I should say was, since Lock went and killed her. How did he know to kill her? And Walt really grew up! Oh, and I'm not ashamed to say I cried when Charlie died. I think if I knew I was going to drown, I would be already geared up with a scuba tank, instead of letting Desmond do that while I punched in the secret code--I'd be ready to go, in case of flooding! That stupid Commie McEyepatch (I'm stickinig with the name, even though he was patch-less today)--he must be some sort of immortal because he WILL NOT DIE! I knew Desmond should have gone and shot him in the head with the gun, just to be safe. Poor Charlie...talk about a hero. I hope Claire finds the ring in the baby's crib.

I'm so glad they have a real end date and we know they'll actually be tying up the story! And thus ends my stream of consciousness reactions to Lost. I just had to write something. And also, did anyone not know Jordin was going to win Idol tonight? I mean, the song the producers picked as the new first single was practically them saying, "Blake, we like you, but we don't want you to win. Sorry. You'll get a contract, too, but you don't get to win Idol."

Lesson learned

So last night I discovered, if you touch your contact lens with something on your hand (probably moisturizer) that causes it to burn like a bitch, don't just go to bed and assume it'll feel fine in the morning. Because you'll have to get up at 5am to take it out anyway (well the 5am wake up was just because of my poor sleeping habits now, but regardless). And then you might have rubbed your eye so much that the contact is lost under your eyelid! So you might as well just take it out right away and save yourself the trouble.

You're welcome.

Good Morning

I've run into the same associate twice at crowded places (once was at a firm thing that was just at a big public event, and the other was at Whole Foods) and both times he's said hi to me and I haven't even seen him til he was like past me and I had to practically shout hi as I'm walking away. So he probably either thinks that I'm ignoring him (not true) or that I'm a ditz who doesn't recognize people when they're two feet away from her (probably true...although it's not not recognizing, it's not paying attention to my surroundings, lol).

I'm getting faster on my blackberry already! I was a super slow typer, but thanks to the messenger thing, I'm learning! Just like how I learned to type on the computer, lol. AIM is better than any other sort of typing program--that's how they should teach it in school.

You notice how whenever they get some guy who is like Jack Bauer Junior they give him some terrible injury at the end? With Chase in season three, it was the whole hand getting cut off thing. And now, Doyle is blind in one eye or maybe both! So I guess he won't be taking over for Jack in the near future. And I didn't like how at the end he was all yelling at Secretary Heller and telling him that he didn't appreciate Jack, etc. Secretary Heller is like the Super Awesome, and I don't want them to make him sound like a jerk all of a sudden. So Jack, take it back! And probably don't jump onto those rocks, either.

Woe is me

Karma bit me on the ass today. At bruch I was teasing two of my Duke friends about how my firm gave us all metro smartrip cards (basically makes it quicker to pay the metro fare) and theirs didn't, and not two hours later I had lost mine! Luckily I had registered it so hopefully I'll get back all the money I had on it, but it's kind of a pain in the ass to replace it. And for some reason losing it put me in the worst mood for like hours, it inexplicably really upset me. Probably extra karmic revenge.

One week down, only seven left in DC!

It's been a long week. Probably because it was five days instead of four, not because it was so hard. Also because I wasn't sleeping well--my subconscious was doing that thing where it was afraid I'd oversleep, so it kept waking me up like five times a night. I even started counting them as I'd wake up, oddly enough. But I'm hoping that the fact that it's been a week now will help my brain get over the fear of being late. Plus I'm trying to trick it--I'm setting two alarms, just so it'll think, well if one doesn't work the other will, so now I can rest!

Work has been good, but busy--there doesn't seem like much time in the day when you get home late after social events! Which are fun, of course, but still kinda work. And I can't believe it's already Saturday night I only have one more day off! Sadness of my heart. Plus I'm still trying to finish something for my clinic! =(

Lost? Awesome this week. Scrubs finale? I'm so mad at JD (and Elliott), they better fix this within five minutes next season or they're fired! HIMYM? Awesome ending--and Andy figured out just how they'll start next season, lol. (Dary!) Ok, this is a lame update, but I had to write something. I don't want to blog from work, but I'll try to work up the energy to say something during the week.

Is the work-week really five whole days long??

So my first day has come and gone. Thanks for the good wishes from people =) I just realized that it's getting late and I still have to straighten my hair so I'm going to make this kind of short. I got kinda lost getting out of the metro unfortunately (it was only a block but I couldn't figure out which direction! And apparently the exact same address is on both sides of the street, and somehow the different sides are different streets, don't ask me how, so I got super confused for a minute!) but I made it on time. I also managed to get a giant papercut within the first ten minutes of filling out paperwork...I'm special like that. A bunch of us started today, so I got to meet some people and they seemed nice so far, although it's hard to tell yet if we'll become good friends or not. We got lots of new pretty electronic toys too, but they go back at the end of the summer (or for me, in eight weeks). But until then, I get to play with a blackberry! So today was all orientation, no work, and thus quite a relaxed day. Tomorrow I'll get my first assignment, hopefully something both super cool and ridiculously easy. Oh, and my office is so nice...I feel like I'm playing make-believe.

Summer officially starts tomorrow

Tomorrow's my first day of work here in DC. I hate first days! They always suck. Not maybe the day itself--it will probably (hopefully?) go fine. I just hate all the nervousness before a first day. Who will be there, who will I talk to, what will I wear, what if something goes wrong, what if I make a fool out of myself. Those are the things that make first days suck. And I guess second days suck too, just slightly less so, and so on and so forth until eventually you figure out that the guy you share your office with also has a slightly off-kilter sense of humor and is obsessed with Saved By The Bell, too. Then everything's ok. But until then, suckiness! Oh well...at least I only have to get through one first day. Oh wait, not true, because I have to do it all over again in eight weeks! Ok then...at least I only have to do it once in DC?

I'm here!

My new favorite Fred Thompson fact:

Fred Thompson has never been confused by anything that has happened on Lost.

Lol!

So I'm in DC now, all moved in to the place I'm subletting with my friend Andy, and work starts on Monday! Our place is pretty nice, it's like a house instead of just an apartment, so it's nice to have all that extra space. There's a kitty that lives here that we have to take care of, but Andy and I must be extra awesome because we were told we might not even SEE the kitty for a week because he's so shy, but like six hours after moving in the kitty not only came out to see us, but let us pet him! So ha, we rock.

Oh, and wonderful news--I finally got back my emails from April 13-26th! There were some important things in there, but luckily nothing vital enought that I got screwed up completely by not having it. But now I feel whole again =)

My life in television

So did anyone see The Office tonight? In case you were wondering, I have the same bathing suit as Pam (you could see the halter part of it around her neck, under her shirt). It's adorable, I assure you.

Ok, I think it's safe now. Too bad I can't figure out how to put in a jump. And by "can't figure out," I mean never done it before and haven't tried to find out how to do it. But anyways, how awesome was Lost last night??? I mean, super awesome, I think. First of all, I feel really bad for Little Kid Ben. How bad does that suck, to lose your mom like that, and then have your dad blame you for the rest of his drunk life? But who goes hiking at seven months pregnant? Not smart. Especially before cell phones were invented (and now wherever they don't get reception). But still, however crappy his dad was, gassing the entire Dharma Initiative? Killing the entire organization? And then throwing them in a mass grave?? That's just horrible. So who were the "hostiles?" And how was Richard (aka photographer Luis from Suddenly Susan, I always think of him like that) already alive and there when Ben was a little kid?? The seeing his dead mom thing doesn't bother me as much as the whole Richard was already there thing. Are they immortal? Age really slowly? Clone themselves? I mean, when they killed the Initiative they didn't look like they'd been living the high life or anything, so I kinda doubt cloning. And what happened to the little girl who gave him the dolls on his birthday? She seemed so sweet.

Also, I have no idea what's going on with Juliet. They keep sucking me in--I believe her, then it turns out she's lying, then over and over! So now that she told them about the raid, does that mean we really can trust her? And how much does Jack know? I need a straight answer, people! But I thought that was a pretty awesome episode. Oh, and so I wonder if Locke is going to actually die? If Commie McEyepatch (Mikhail, I know) can survive his brain basically dripping out his ears, you'd think one bullet to the stomach shouldn't be so hard. Plus he's like super extra heal-y, with his whole paralysis and all. So maybe he'll be ok? Otherwise I'll feel kinda guilty, since I said he'd be the one I'd want to get rid of. OH! I totally forgot about that Jacob thing! So there's an invisible ghost man in charge? I'm guessing it's not Ben faking it since he shot Locke to find out what he said to him. Save me? Save him from what? Being a ghost man? Ben? I'm very glad to know we'll have answers to all of this one day. Even if I'll be almost 27 when that happens.

I love being craft-y

So I've never been to Hobby Lobby before because we don't have it in San Diego (or in Durham), but I've heard talk about how awesome it is, and they have one like every two feet here in Dallas. I have a couple of projects to work on while I'm here (including Scrapbook mania!) so I decided to go in and see what all the fuss is about. And they're right--it's awesome! I mean, like four aisles of scrapbooking stuff. That just doesn't happen at Michaels! Even Jo-Ann, which I love, is more fabric and stuff. So I'm officially a huge fan now. And my Alaska scrapbook is going to rock pretty hard now, although I actually bought a lot of the stuff I need for it in Alaska already (because I knew a lot of the sticker-type stuff wouldn't be available down here, because who would sell that? Although, interestingly enough, I was at Costco a couple of days ago and what did they have in the book section but the Frommers Alaska 2007 that I bought off Amazon a few months ago! I wonder if that's a big seller. But I digress.). So yeah, Hobby Lobby rocks pretty hard.

I'll be a real lawyer by then

So Lost has an end date! I'm not thrilled that they're doing it in three 16-episodes seasons instead of two 24-episodes ones, but I'll take it! I'm relieved to know that both (a) they won't pull the plug prematurely, and (b) there's an actual finish line where the story will all come together! Thank goodness. I'm really enjoying this season, though. And I just saw on some magazine at the grocery store (it might be TV Guide, but it was like a giant tv guide! So weird) that they're killing off FIVE characters in the season finale. It better be like [minor spoiler alert from like three weeks ago!] Paolo and whatshername, the two characters that got randomly introduced and then killed off before they did anything. I want to keep the good ones alive! And other than maybe Locke, I don't know who it would be that I want gone. He's just weird. But everyone else needs to stay!

Too much

Ok, I don't really have nightmares (just odd dreams about dinosaurs and such), but if I did, this would give them to me. Spiders living in my ear????????????????? Ewewewewewew.

Oh, and suck it, Lefties!

Buh bye Durham

Well I'm back in Dallas! Which means I'm (hopefully) completely done my 2L year now. I say hopefully because I'm technically short of hours for my animal law clinic, but the professor knows this and I keep telling him I'm willing to do work but he isn't giving me enough stuff to do. So I don't know how he's going to handle this. I can still do stuff for him from out here, but it's up to him to find me things to do! And he has a habit of taking days to respond to emails, so we'll see when he gets around to telling me what the plan is.

But regardless, I'm free of Durham for now! The two-day drive is over, and now I have a few days at home and then I head to DC on Friday for firm one of two this summer.

You know what was weird? In Memphis, we were behind someone with a horse trailer, but instead of a horse, they had a camel inside! Who has a camel, I ask you? Besides the Anchorage Zoo, that is (they have two now, actually). Odd.

Painful

I can't believe that the Mavs lost...in the first round...to Golden State! This is a travesty.

Thursday, May 03, 2007

But I'm pretty sure that deep down I'm a cold-hearted snake (look into my eyes!)

My friends have determined that I'm too nice to be a lawyer. They're predicting I'm out of the profession within five years. I don't know why no one believes me when I say that I'm tough! Grrr. See, that's me being tough!

The Tav rocks

Once again, Adam does the hard part for me--he posted about our recent, momentous trivia victory from last Tuesday night. Three in a row! We are kind of unstoppable, I'm just saying. Well, we'll be stoppable when Adam leaves Durham for good in like a week, but other than that. The best part about Tuesday's trivia games was that it was pop culture night--so I was on fire. I mean, there was an ENTIRE CATEGORY about Saved by the Bell! It might as well have been, Stories About Reva's Life, or something else I would have known just by being awake. And "Spouses of Cheers Characters?" It's like it was the Trivia Night of Destiny. And the tiebreaker Adam mentioned was totally fun--we were head to head, and we each had 15 seconds to confer with the team and then had to report our answer to the trivia lady. It was so exciting! Kind of like back in my Academic League days, except way better questions (like, what is the name of Gwyneth Paltrow's kid who isn't Apple? Who is Ben Stiller's mom? Where is Crater Lake? (that one isn't pop culture, but for the tiebreaker she just asked all the other teams to give her a question)). Yeah, we kicked their asses, you better believe it.
