I need videos

I have a notebook where I keep my step combos, and the problem with step is that there aren't always clear descriptions for moves. So I end up having to recreate what I did before, or sometimes I just keep playing with it because I kind of remember what the move was, and I remember it was really awesome, but I can't figure out what the hell "2 skis-switch-knee over-kick" means and it drives me nuts! For example.

Career # 2

I just purchased a domain name. Somehow in the space of two days,
being a lawyer/wedding planner has gone from something I've joked
about for years, to something I'm actually going to try to do with my
friend/coworker. Not for a couple of years, we are nowhere near
ready, but still. It's kind of exciting.

I wonder how much snow before they close the office?

It's snowing outside...and actually sticking! They said we should get 1-3 inches...I'm pretty sure that counts as a blizzard.

UPDATE: My hair!! Turns out stupid snow is wet. I am displeased.

UPDATE 2: Just got an email that an old shop that is in the same physical building as our office is on fire. And yet the office is still open!

Pursuing that next career

I was browsing around online and I happened to discover that GWU offers an Event Management Certificate. I'm thinking, if I ever want to end up a recruiting coordinator or something like that, it might not hurt to have something on my resume that indicates that I might be able to do some sort of planning-type job, other than my natural love of lists and organization. The classes are really each just two-day seminars, so very doable. I'm thinking I might pick one and try that, and then if I like it get the actual certificate. I have a lot of plans, and few of them seem to involve being a lawyer. Hmm.

I don't want to go to work tomorrow.

Pet peeve #21

I find there is no excuse for a grown man to use letters instead of words when sending emails. I mean "c u there?" Because four extra letters are just soooo much work? I don't even like it in texts, but at least I can understand it a teeny little bit. But emails? I'm sorry, it's never ok. And this isn't just for guys, it drives me nuts when anyone does it, but seriously, an adult male? No.

Dreams

Two of my friend from work are coming to my step class today (just for fun, they've never done step before), and so of course I had a bad dream last night about my class. It was packed, and at first I was super happy about that, but nobody would listen to me, they were all standing around and chatting, I couldn't get the music right, nobody could hear me because I wasn't using the mic...it was a disaster. At 12:30 (class starts at 12) I still hadn't made it through the warm-up, and I was so frustrated I was screaming at people, and still they were ignoring me. I think this dream comes from the fact that I taught on Monday as part of a special MLK day schedule, and only two people showed up...and it wasn't so much the fact that only two people came as the fact that for some reason I'd been thinking, oh, day off of work, I'm sure everyone will be at the gym! Instead of oh, three day weekend, inauguration day weekend, people will probably be busy. So it was just kind of disappointing, and the two people who did show up weren't particularly awesome at step, so the class was just kind of a let-down. We'll see if today's dream portends doom or not...hopefully not.

UPDATE: No doom!

Woo!

Most excited I've been in a while? When I realized that there was a second episode of Lost on tonight! Seriously, so happy. Nothing like thinking you're done for a week and bam, one more hour!

Important work conversations

Reva (DC) [3:51 PM]:
I'm realistic enough to know that the average person is a moron
Reva (DC) [3:51 PM]:
which I didn't think for a long time...but then I met more people
Cy (DC) [3:51 PM]:
haha
Cy (DC) [3:51 PM]:
if you were famous that be a delicious quote
Cy (DC) [3:52 PM]:
but you're not, so it won't be remembered beyond 4:00 =(

Yes, I'm posting this just to prove to him that at least my mother
will remember it beyond 4 pm.

I love informercials

I totally want this.

Ooh!

I'm watching NCIS and Josh Holloway (Sawyer from Lost) is on, playing a West Virginia sheriff! Still hot, but not as awesome as him as Sawyer.

Love working from home

It doesn't matter how many times I've seen Cool Runnings, I still cry at the end every time.

DC is cra-zy

Tomorrow I'm working from home because the secret service has asked everyone within a certain vicinity of the White House to close for the day. I think it's pretty cool that I live in a place where that happens. The coolness is negated by the fact that we have to deal with these insanely annoying tourists coming in for the inauguration, though. I mean, seriously, it is universal that you walk on the left and stand on the right for escalators. This is common courtesy! So being from out of town is no excuse, and if I stab you with my metro card, then you deserve it.

Also, the Potomac has been kind of frozen over, and it's pretty cool. I've never seen that big a body of water frozen over before (except when I was in Alaska but that doesn't really count because you couldn't even tell which side of the road was ocean and which side was land because it was just all white snow everywhere you looked).

Two things

I'm watching season one of Doogie Howser, M.D. on hulu right now, and
guess who appeared in the pilot episode? Janitor
(http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0283568/). Who I also recently saw in the
newest Indiana Jones movie, and of course we all know he was in The
Fugitive because there was an entire Scrubs episode about that. So
(a) Janitor loves Harrison Ford, and (b) he loves playing law
enforcement because he played cops in Doogie Howser and The Fugitive,
and an FBI agent in Indiana Jones.

Also, in the current episode of Doogie Howser I'm watching, they were
calling a kid's name to go into the doctor's office, and they used the
name Brandon Tartikoff. Nice try, writers!

Give me a break!

Almost died again on my walk this morning with Jamie. Came in and checked the temperature--23 degrees, feels like nine. And I just saw that the high on Friday is 21. Fan-f*cking-tastic.

Congrats, John!!

I was painting my toenails and I noticed I had a smudge on one of them, and I was wondering how I did that because I didn't want to end up with nail polish on my lovely semi-new couch (if September still counts as new). Then when I walked back into the bathroom I noticed that I somehow had nail polish on my forehead. Which means when I was sitting on the couch doing my toes I ended up kicking my own forehead and not even noticing. I worry about me.

In a related story about my being retarded, when I was at work I was trying to call the Lexis helpline (Lexis = legal search engine, the people at the helpline help you formulate searches for free so you don't spend a fortune looking for stuff that doesn't exist) I accidentally dialed some sort of phone sex line instead. Luckily there was just a recorded message telling me of another number to call, so I hung up quickly. But, yeah.

I keep forgetting what day of the week it is, since I worked this weekend. I kept thinking it was Thursday today. Man, what a disappointment. Also, I think I'm developing a sixth sense for when my friends are calling/texting to say they're engaged. I guess that's what experience will do for you.

He was robbed

I'm sitting here on my couch doing work, as I have been doing for a fair amount of this weekend, and the Golden Globes is on in the background (because the work I'm doing is somewhat mindless and I can have something on in the background that I won't pay all my attention to, like the playoffs or the golden globes). And I keep having thoughts about the Golden Globes but there is no one to share them with but Jamie, and he doesn't care overmuch. So I thought to myself, oh, I should liveblog the Globes right here on my blog! But then I realized that I can't do that and my work, so I'm going to be a grown-up and do my work instead. But I do have a couple of thoughts to share: (1) Ricky Gervais is hilarious. (2) Sure, Tom Wilkinson was great as Ben Franklin. But as NPH to play Ben Franklin, and then ask Tom Wilkinson to play Barney Stinson, and see which one of the two is the more versatile actor. I'm going with NPH.

UPDATE: Ok, I just remembered that Tom Wilkinson was really funny in Shakespeare in Love, but I don't care, I still think NPH wins. Or should have won. Also, I just discovered that Hulu has all of Doogie Howser, MD online, which is great since I've never seen it and I need something to watch at work while I'm doc reviewing.

What a waste

You know, if it's still going to be dark when I get up, we might as well have skipped fall back so at least it wouldn't get dark in the middle of the afternoon. Just saying.

There's one flaw with posting via email

I am not sure how to do links. So I'll just say instead that the WSJ has the headline on its home page right now "Frugal Families Aggravate Nation's Economic Woes: Families who are embracing frugality are also a major reason the downturn may not soon end." So from now on I'm not going to feel guilty about buying stuff, I'm going to feel like I'm doing my part to serve my country!

Also, cnn.com has a story right now about how the FBI is now looking
to fill 850 spots in the biggest hiring wave since 9/11. The job
listings are only open until 1/16 though, so if I'm going to switch
careers, I better do it ASAP!

Why do I know all about what's on news sites right now? Because I
have nothing to do and it's better to surf the internet than panic.

Ha

One of the Fiesta Bowl announcers called Mack Brown classy. I wanted to throw something at the tv just then.

Being helpful

At the risk of turning this into a HIMYM blog (although what would be the problem with that, really), I'd just like to point out that HIMYM syndication on Lifetime (how weird is that) starts TOMORROW at 7 pm! So if you're too lazy to go get the dvds, here's your chance to catch up weeknights at 7. And from the very first episode, no less! So set your dvrs or make sure you're home.

Another letter

Dear EW,

When you're doing a preview of upcoming Harry Potter movies, could you
not mention important plot points, like marriages and deaths? Some of
us haven't read the books so we can be surprised when the movies come
out. Doesn't seem too much to ask.
